SoPo Kitchen Revamp
Owner wanted all the light possible, a shower for washing the dogs in the bathroom, nook for work/dining, and area for dining table when company arrives. We combined the existing kitchen and dining room by removing the wall between them, added the bathroom, with curbless shower and toilet in same minimal space, added a full-lite door and installed a bay window, modified to provide seating at a dining table. The kitchen was in the center of the space with light on three outside walls. Because of the small space we used a pullout pantry cabinet, 18" dishwasher, small workspace/island housing the pots and pans, and judicious storage options in the remaining cabinetry. We narrowed the opening to the living room slightly, reinstalled an existing china cabinet in a different place, used a period light fixture and matched the existing trim to keep the flavor of the original house.
